This year I will be following my dreams; building on what I have achieved in 2019 and working as hard as I possibly can to try and make my ultimate dream a reality! With this in mind I am going to be very busy!
My Public Speaking:
I am a European Silver Medalist (team) striving towards selection for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and winning a gold medal! I also mentor two young para riders who would like to follow in my foot steps and act as an Ambassador for two super charities.
I am taking bookings now please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to book. I can talk about how I live with a life changing condition alongside being a full time Para Dressage athlete; my story and sports journey, my work with two charities who I act as an Ambassador for and lots of other subjects. I have also previously given out medals or awards at an event so please get in contact and we can discuss what it is you would like me to do.
Some of my work/speeches to date:
Two workshops for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
Rotary Clubs
Bourne End and Cookham Rotary Club Christmas Lunch
A group of guides
Business lunches
Schools
I cannot wait to build on what I started last year and to inspire others along the way. During my life I have constantly faced many challenges along the way due to my disability but I have been able to overcome these. I believe that these struggles and the problem solving that I had to undertake have made me into the person I am today I am constantly told that I am an inspiration and due to this I have decided it’s time to share my story with others and to inspire others to follow their dreams.
Some of the feedback from a previous speech engagement:
A massive “Thank You” to Mari Durward-Akhurst Para Dressage Rider and her Mum, Sue, for making our Christmas Dinner so special‼️ Members, partners and friends all enjoyed a festive meal complete with crackers and mince pies before Mari held us spell-bound with a lavishly illustrated account of her journey from confidence building as a child with Riding for the Disabled, to preparing for selection for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Her tenacity in overcoming all the challenges of her degenerative condition was simply awe-inspiring and besides the gold and silver medals she has picked up in national and international championships in her chosen sport, an extra gold medal for perseverance and courage would not go amiss❣️Please support Mari’s Tokyo campaign at gf.me/u/vuuu5s. Any help however small would be greatly appreciated and so well-deserved.
